Oxford to Hampton Court
Sunday- Henley on Thames
Meet the Captain or a crewmember at the designated meeting point for afternoon English Cream Tea, before being transferred to the Magna Carta, moored along the famous Henley Royal Regatta course. On arrival guests receive a 'Champagne Welcome' by the Captain and crew. Dinner on board.
Monday- Henley on Thames to Hurley
After breakfast we make a visit to Eton College, founded in 1440 and once school to Prince William and Prince Harry. Here a beautiful new footbridge not only allows splendid views of the collect and river but takes you to Luxmore's Garden, an island garden created by an Eton Housemaster in 1880. There is also time to view the Provost's and Fellow's Gardens. After lunch we set sail and cruise the famous Regatta Mile. Here, every year in July rowing teams from around the world compete in front of Champagne and Pimms fuelled crowds. We pass through Hambledon Lock, and onwards through stunning countryside to the medieval village of Hurley. We wander through Peter Freebody’s boatyard and watch in wonder as the traditional craftsmen build and restore classic wooden craft as they have for generations. Afterwards we have time to explore the ancient village including Ye Olde Belle, reputed to be the oldest inn in the country before returning to the barge. Dinner on board.
Tuesday- Hurley to Cliveden to Cookham
This morning we cruise through magnificent scenery past the riverside towns of Marlow, Bourne End and Cookham and down into the spectacular Clivedon reach where we have special permission to moor at the house itself. After lunch we visit Cliveden Estate and Gardens. This magnificent estate, former home of Lord and Lady Astor, boasts amazing views and incredible gardens. First laid out in the 18th century they include a formal parterre, a wonderful water garden with a restored Pagoda made for the Paris Exhibition of 1867, a long garden with topiary and 18th century Venetian statues. Truly stunning. A late afternoon cruise takes us to our stunning overnight mooring in Cookham. Dinner on board.
Wednesday- Cookham to Windsor
Artist Sir Stanley Spencer, one of England’s greatest and most eccentric painters, once described Cookham as ‘Heaven on Earth’. Much of his work was painted in and around the village. This morning, after breakfast we visit Stanley Spencer’s gallery and admire some of his paintings. Our afternoon cruise takes us through Maidenhead and Boulters Lock (made famous in Victorian times), past fabulous waterside homes in Bray and down to the heart of Windsor.Cruise to Runnymede followed by a visit and afternoon coffee at stunning Saville Gardens. Saville Gardens comprises of over 1,500 hectares of Windsor Great Park and is maintained by the Crown Estate and contains a diverse range of land uses. Over 60% of the Great Park is open to the public and it is estimated that more than 3 million visits are made each year. The Gardens Department is responsible for 600 hectares of the Great Park including the Savill Garden. There is also an optional visit to the nearby Wisley Gardens which is 200 acres of botanic gardens, famous for their trials of new varieties. Dinner on board.
Thursday- Windsor to Hampton Court
Early morning cruise to Hampton Court which takes us to the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, set in 25 acres of Royal parkland, where ingenious design, original ideas and creative flair, combine to inspire. Organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, nurseries, societies and charities create 25 colour filled traditional and contemporary gardens in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace, including spectacular water gardens. There are also stunning floral displays in 8 huge marquees, including the British Rose Festival, plus much, much more. After this heady and colourful assault on your senses we return to Magna Carta for dinner on board.
Friday- Shepperton to Hampton Court Palace
After breakfast we visit the famous Kew Gardens. With the new Bonsai collection, Palm House where all the plants have their first flush of new growth and tropical water lilies are opening their exotic blooms in the nearby Waterlily House. Plants of a smaller stature or scale can be seen in the Rock Garden and here plants from the world's mountain ranges are grown alongside Mediterranean species, both enjoying the open, sunny position and free-draining soil. Farewell Dinner on board.
Saturday- Hampton Court Palace
Following breakfast, disembark the barge for your transfer to the designated drop off point.

Wander through the beautiful Royal gardens and maze. In the afternoon enjoy a meandering cruise upstream following the course of the Thames to Shepperton. Dinner on board

An early morning start takes us to the Chelsea Flower Show, the most famous flower show in the world. Here nurseries, societies and charities create colour filled stands and amazing arrangements in a huge marquee outside the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. In addition to this there are wonderful and innovative display gardens, both traditional and contemporary, created by the brightest and best of Britain¹s garden designers. Months of work goes into these beautifully staged displays which only last a week. After this heady and colourful assault on your senses we return to Magna Carta for dinner on board.
Friday- Cookham to Henley on Thames

Monday- Hampton Court Palace to Shepperton
This morning we walk in Richmond Park. Here at the top of Richmond Hill we find 2500 acres of undulating grassland and bracken, dotted with coppiced woodland and wilder than anything for miles around. Eight miles across at its widest point, it is famed for its red and fallow deer, which roam freely, and for its ancient oaks. For the most part untamed, the park does have a couple of deliberately landscaped plantations. In the afternoon enjoy a meandering cruise upstream following the course of the Thames to Shepperton. Dinner aboard.
Tuesday- Shepperton to Runnymede
Morning cruise to Runnymede. We moor at Bell Weir Lock adjacent to a luxury spa hotel, where we have the opportunity to visit and use the pool and elaborate leisure facilities. After lunch we visit Windsor Great Park. Comprising about 4800 acres of wooded parkland and gardens, we walk around Virginia Water Lake, a large ornamental lake fringed by trees, paths and rides. This glorious walk perfectly reflects the changing seasons and never strays far from the water's edge. Virginia Water covers about 160 acres and was developed in the middle of the 18th century for the Duke of Cumberland after his victory at Culloden. Dinner aboard.
Wednesday- Runnymede to Windsor
Walk the Runnymede Memorials and the Playing Fields of Eton. After breakfast we take a short cruise to the Runnymede pleasure grounds and then stroll across the meadows to theMagna Carta memorial. This commemorates the place where in 1215, King John faced the powerful barons and was forced to seal the Magna Carta. We then start climbing towards the JFK Memorial and continue up Coopers Hill to the Commonwealth Airforces Memorial, a most fitting site to remember the 20,000 or so commonwealth airmen who have no known grave. We then continue back to the boat before a spectacular cruise to Windsor. After lunch we walk the Playing Fields of Eton. Beginning with a worthy stroll along the Thames path we soon head for the famous playing fields where, according to Wellington, the battle of Waterloo was won. For the duration of this walk we are aware of Windsor Castle, its high defensive position dominating the view. After walking we take a late afternoon cruise to our private mooring. Dinner aboard.
Thursday- Windsor to Cookham
Walk Cookham Dean and Winter Hill. Leaving Royal Windsor behind us we cruise past fabulous waterside homes through the spectacular Clivedon reach and the open English countryside. We moor in Cookham, once described as 'Heaven on Earth' by artist Stanley Spencer, one of England's greatest and most eccentric painters. This afternoon we take you for a ramble up the old packhorse way to Cookham Dean, where Kenneth Graham lived and was inspired to write 'The Wind in the Willows'. Look out for muntjac deer and other wildlife in this beautiful setting, and then climb to Winter Hill for panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. Dinner aboard.
Friday- Cookham to Henley on Thames
Walk the Ridgeway, Kingston Lisle to Ashbury. A morning cruise to the village of Hurley where we have time to wander Peter Freebody's boatyard and watch in wonder at the traditional craftsmen at work. Return to the barge for lunch before cruising to Henley on Thames, our final approach being along the famous Henley Regatta Course. This afternoon we finish with a truly magnificent walk along the Ridge. Between Kingston Lisle and Ashbury are the undisputed highlights of the entire Ridgeway. Iron Age Uffington 'Castle', the White Horse of Uffington and the Wayland's Smithy Long Barrow. The countryside surrounding the Ridgeway is rich in wild flowers and bird life, and traces of early man are everywhere. As if what we have done is not enough, our return walk is along footpaths linking three of the lovely settlements that lie at the foot of the downs: Ashbury, Compton Beauchamp and Woolstone. Time for tennis at the Runnymede Hotel’s outdoor hard courts before another cruise past Runnymede, where King John faced the powerful barons and signed the ‘Magna Carta” in 1215 as well as viewing the J F Kennedy Memorial. Wednesday- Runnymede to Windsor
This morning we cruise to Windsor before enjoying lunch on board. After lunch we have an afternoon excursion to Windsor Castle. Built by William the Conqueror in 1066 and inhabited for over 900 years by the Royal Family. Moor on a private island with a unique view of the Castle. Tennis this afternoon at Windsor Lawn Tennis Club. Dinner aboard.
Thursday- Windsor to Cookham
Leaving Royal Windsor behind us we cruise past fabulous waterside homes through the spectacular Clivedon reach and the open English countryside. We moor in Cookham, once described as ‘Heaven on Earth’ by artist Stanley Spencer, one of England’s greatest and most eccentric painters, whose gallery we visit. Tennis this afternoon at the Royal Berkshire. This private club has fabulous indoor courts and outdoor grass courts. Dinner aboard.
Friday- Cookham to Henley on Thames
A morning cruise to the village of Hurley where we have time to wander Peter Freebody’s boatyard where we can watch in wonder at the traditional craftsman at work. Return to the barge for lunch before cruising to Henley on Thames, along the famous Henley Regatta Course. Once we arrive in Henley there is plenty of time to explore the town for shopping opportunities and browsing in antique shops before returning to Magna Carta for the Captains Farewell Dinner aboard.

This morning we leave the barge by foot and take the very short walk to Hampton Court Palace Golf Course situated on the River Thames. This is the only golf course in Great Britain where you can play golf in the grounds of a royal palace. This unique inland links design is a deceptively challenging test for golfers of all abilities. The course has a wide variety of flora and fauna including a magnificent herd of 300 fallow deer and an oak tree, probably over a thousand years old. In the afternoon enjoy a meandering cruise upstream following the course of the Thames to Shepperton. Dinner aboard. (18 holes Par 71 5953m).
Tuesday- Shepperton to Runnymede
Today's golf is at the famous Walton Heath Golf Club. Famous for staging the Ryder Cup and European Open Championships. Once owned by the News of the World, Sir Elmsley Carr would invite Mp's, Lords and members of the press to Walton heath. Designed by Herbert Fowler in 1903. Afternoon cruise to Runnymede hotel where we have use of the excellent spa facilities including swimming pools, saunas, steam rooms and beauty treatments. Dinner aboard. (18 holes Par 72 6198m).
Wednesday- Runnymede to Windsor
This morning we have an option. We can take a short drive to view the Magna Carta memorial where King John faced the powerful barons and was made to sign the document from which our barge takes her name. We also visit the commonwealth air force memorial, opened by the queen to commemorate those 20000 airmen who have no known grave. (Or Optional Golf at Wentworth to be paid for by guests directly to the club. Wentworth is considered one of Europe's finest clubs and almost needs no introduction. Famous for the PGA and World Match Play Tournaments as well as many other events. Afternoon cruise through beautiful countryside to Windsor. We see Windsor Castle, built by William the Conqueror in 1066 and inhabited for over 900 years by the Royal Family. Our mooring is on a private island with a unique view of the Castle. Dinner aboard. Today's golf is at Sunningdale Golf Club, established in 1901 and ranked as one of the top 20 courses in the world. The Old Course founded in 1901 was designed by Willie Park. It is classic course with gorse and pine trees, silver birch, heather and immaculate turf. This afternoon we leave Royal Windsor behind us we cruise past fabulous waterside homes through the spectacular Clivedon reach and the open English countryside. Paris to Auxerre
Sunday- Paris
You are met at the **designated meeting point and transferred to the barge moored in the heart of Paris for a wonderful champagne welcome. We have the afternoon to relax and cruise past Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower. We will moor that night in the Latin Quarter where you will enjoy your first gourmet dinner on board.
Monday- Paris to Samoir sur Seine
Scenic cruise out of Paris to Samois sur Seine. After lunch we will take an excursion to Chateau of Fontainebleau. To walk through Fontainebleau is to walk through the history of France. Every royal family has added its own architectural signature. Go on the charming village of Moret, where the Impressionist Sisley painted, and then rejoin the barge for an evening cruise to Montereau.
Tuesday- Samois sur Seine to Monterereau
A morning cruise on the upper part of the River Seine to Monterereau, where the smaller river, the Yonne, meets us. After lunch we will take a drive out to the Medieval town of Provins, also called the "City of Roses". Here we will watch the magnificent show of the birds of prey. Return to the barge moored in a beautiful country setting.
Wednesday- Monterereau to Sens
A pleasant cruise along the beautiful River Yonne to the town of Sens, the oldest town in France. Visit the first great gothic cathedral, a magnificent building that dominates the main square. Time to shop, visit the museum or stroll around the town.
Thursday- Sens to Joigny
Winding up the Yonne, we reach the pretty riverside town of Joigny. The beautiful narrow cobblestone streets stretching their way up to wonderful churches perched on top of the town takes you back to another era. In the afternoon we will take a drive out to Chablis. We select one of the small family operations for an intimate tour of their vineyards and cellar.
Friday- Joigny to Auxerre
Cruise along the upper reaches of the Yonne to Auxerre, the most beautiful of all river towns whose skyline is punctuated by church spires and its streets lined with timbered 16th century houses. Time for shopping, visiting the old port or the 15th century clock tower. Farewell celebration on board enjoying your last elegant gourmet dinner.

After your last elegant breakfast on board you will be driven to the **designated drop off point.

Monday- Paris to Meaux
Morning cruise out of Paris onto the River Marne. After lunch you visit the magnificent Chateaux of Vaux-le-Vicomte. Rejoin the barge in Meaux in time to stroll around and visit the cathedral.
Tuesday- Meaus to Le Ferte
Morning cruise from Meaux to La Ferte and an afternoon visit to Coulommiers, one of the centers of Brie cheese-making. You will enjoy a tasting of the various Brie's of a master cheese maker, along with wines from his excellent cellar.
Wednesday- Le Ferte to Charly sur Marne
We are now in Champagne and on our way to Charly-sur-Marne. Stop to enjoy the wonderful champagne of a small family vineyard before an afternoon cruise to Chateau Thierry, the scene of American battles in World War I. Optional visit to Belleau Wood battlefield.
Thursday- Charly sur Marne to Damery
The Marne takes us through covered hills dotted with small wine villages to the delightful little town of Damery. Afternoon visit to the cellars of Moet et Chandon for a private wine tasting.
Friday- Damery to Epernay
We leave the River Marne for a small canal leading to Epernay. Visit the Abbey of Hautvilliers where the monk Dom Perignon first made champagne. Afternoon drive to Reims Cathedral. Wonderful farewell celebration on board and your last gourmet dinner on board.
Saturday- Epernay
After your last elegant breakfast on board you will be driven to the **designated drop off point.

Nancy to Strasbourg
Sunday- Nancy
You are met at the **designated meeting point and transferred to the barge moored in the heart of Nancy for a wonderful champagne welcome. We will then take a leisurely late afternoon cruise at sunset before the locks close and you will enjoy your first gourmet dinner on board.
Monday- Nancy to Einville
We will enjoy a morning cruise to Einville and then to Nancy for a walking tour of the city beginning at the elegant “Place Stanislas”. Flanked by handsome Baroque palaces and enclosed by ornate gold and wrought iron entry gates, the square is considered one of the grandest in all of France. The Art Nouveau movement originated in Nancy, and you may choose to visit the Ecole de Nancy to see its fine collection.
Tuesday- Einville to Schneckenbush
After a morning cruise past tidy farms and pasturelands, we will drive to the privately owned Chateau de Fleville. This graceful Renaissance residence adjoins a 14th century castle keep. The interiors are richly furnished with 18th century antiques. We then return to La Nouvelle moored in the peaceful village of Schneckenbush for the night.
Wednesday- Schneckenbush to Lutzelbourg
Each day we travel on the canal we have been gradually climbing to the crest of the Vosges Mountains. After navigating two tunnels carved into the mountaintop, we will encounter the Inclined Plane at Arzviller. This unique lock allows a barge to glide effortlessly up or down the mountainside using a sophisticated system of weights and balances. A short drive along the way will take us to the Christallerig of Harz village where fine crystal is still hand blown. We continue the cruise through the Zorn Valley where the surrounding hilltops are dotted with ruins of feudal castles. Our overnight stay will be in Lutzelbourg.
Thursday- lutzelbourg to Saverne
We wind through the heart of Saverne, past the regal 18th century Bishop’s Palace. From Saverne, we will take an afternoon drive along the Route du Vin d’ Alsace to the old fortified town of Obernai where we will visit the Marker Square and the 14th century ramparts that surround the city. Stop along the way at Winegrower to taste some of the best Alcasian wines.
Friday- Saverne to Strasbourg
Today we will finish the cruise in the busy port of Strasbourg. Our afternoon tour of Strasbourg includes the folk museum and the 11th century gothic cathedral, leaving enough time to stroll around to explore the fine shops. Returning to the barge we will celebrate our cruise with a lovely farewell dinner.

Koblenz to Remich
Sunday- Koblenz
You are met at the **designated meeting point and transferred to the barge moored in the heart of Koblenz for a wonderful champagne welcome. There will be a short late afternoon cruise to Winningen, one of the oldest and largest wine growing villages in the area where we will stop and you will experience the first of many gourmet meals on board.
Monday- Koblenz to Cochem
A morning cruise guides us through the lowest part of the Mosel River up to the charming town of Cochem. In the early afternoon we will drive you to the castle of Burg Eltz, also called the “Queen of the German Castles” as it is one of the few that were not destroyed by the French King Louis XIV in 1689. A guided tour takes us through this fascinating 12th century castle. We return to La Nouvelle in Cochem in time to stroll through this delightful little village.
Tuesday- Cochem to Zell
After breakfast we will take a leisurely cruise past numerous vineyards in beautiful scenery to Zell. This is one of the most beautiful towns on the Mosel and is famous for its wines. Visit the cellars of Dr Josef Weiss, just outside of town for our first wine tasting.
Wednesday- Zell to Berkastel
Cruising up this very picturesque part of the Mosel we reach Bernkastel, another famous wine village. Here you will find the “crème de la crème” of Mosel wines. In the afternoon visit the private cellars of Pauli Bergweiler for a sampling of his superb wines. Finish our day with a stroll around the village of Bernkastel.
Thursday- Berkastel to Trier
This morning we will cruise to the oldest town in Germany, Trier. Trier will take you back to the old Roman times from hundreds of years before Christ. Visit the Porta Nigra, part of the old town wall and the magnificent St. Peters Cathedral, or stroll the old town to shop or browse.
Friday- Trier to Remich
This morning we will cruise our last part on the Mosel into Luxembourg to the small village of Remich. In the afternoon, there will be time to visit the nearby capital of Luxembourg. Tonight, Captain Jan Meijer and his wife Diana will join you for a farewell dinner on board.

Sunday- Bruges
You are met at the designated meeting point and transferred to the barge moored in moored in the beautiful little town of Bruges, known as the “Venice of the North”. After a wonderful Champagne Welcome, we will take you into Bruges for a city tour on one of the little canal boats. Upon return to La Nouvelle Etoile you will have time to relax and get ready for your first of many gourmet meals on board.
Monday- Bruges to Ghent
This morning you can join a guided walking tour of Bruges with a local guide. Return to the barge for lunch. After lunch, you will have some free time in Bruges. Late afternoon cruise to Ghent.
Tuesday- Ghent to Oudenaarde
After breakfast, your guide will take you into Ghent. Visit the cathedral with fabulous painting "The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb” painted by the van Eyck brothers. Return to the barge for a cruise up the River Schelde to the town of Oudenaarde where we will moor for the night.
Wednesday- Oudenaarde to Tournay
A morning cruise further up the River Schelde will take us to the ancient town of Tournay with its famous "Pont des Trous" (Bridge with Holes) used to collect tolls on the rivers in the old times. This afternoon you can stroll around Tournay or take an optional drive to Waterloo.
Thursday- Tournay to Arleux
We continue along the Schelde through the town of Valenciennes to the junction of the Canal du Nord at the little French village of Arleux. We will drive to Valenciennes along the way to visit the museum of Fine Arts.
Friday- Arleux to Peronne
We begin our climb over the Vermandois Hills of Picardie through the many locks and several tunnels of the Canal du Nord. The scenery is spectacular rural France at its best. There is a great towpath for the barge along the canal that allows you to have a leisurely walk if you wish. After lunch, there will be a trip to Amiens to visit what must be one of the greatest of all Gothic cathedrals with its powerful towering spires and columns.
Saturday- Peronne to The Canal du Nord
After breakfast you can visit the war museum in Peronne. Upon return, we will continue on the Canal du Nord. There will be plenty of opportunities to walk or bike while the barge travels from lock to lock. The cruise now continues along the Canal du Nord as it drops down into the valley of the Somme River before climbing over another watershed.
Sunday- The Canal du Nord to Compiegne
Today we will cruise down to the Oise River valley to moor in the riverside town of Compiegne. There are many places to visit, including the train where the World War I armistice was signed, as well as the Royal Palace.
Monday- Compiegne to Auvers sur Oise
We are now cruising down the Oise River valley where we stop at the village of Auvers sur Oise. This charming village is a van Gogh scene. Here is where he lived and painted most of his last,and most important paintings where he stayed in a small room above a local café. We will have an afternoon walk around the town and visit the cemetery where Vincent and his brother are buried.
Tuesday- Avers sur Oise to Conflans
We take a full picnic lunch with deck chairs and tables and go on a day excursion to Giverny to visit the home and gardens of Claude Monet, probably the most famous of all the Impressionist painters. The gardens will be at their most beautiful at this time of year where we will see the famous lily pond and the Japanese bridge that inspired so many of his paintings. We will moor for the night in Conflans, which is the junction of the Oise and Seine Rivers.
Wednesday- Conflans to Paris
In the morning we will cruise to Bougival and visit Malmaison, the home of Napoleon. We will see its many lavishly decorated rooms furnished by Josephine. We will rejoin La Nouvelle Etoile for an evening cruise up the floodlit River Seine past the Eiffel Tower and into the "Port d'Arsenal" adjacent to the Bastille for a farewell dinner on board.

After an early elegant breakfast we will drive to the colourful flower auction in Aalsmeer and then return back for morning cruise along the canals to Lisse where you will be taken after lunch to visit the Keukenhof Gardens, the largest display of flowers in the world. Here you will see hundreds of varieties of tulips, hyacinths and other bulbs. Meanwhile, La Nouvelle Etoile has continued cruising to Delft and before returning to the barge we will take you for a visit to the Delft Pottery Works where the world famous pottery is still handmade and painted. Tuesday- Delft to Willemstad
We leave Delft and cruise to Rotterdam. In the morning you will have time to visit the ancient distillery of Ketel One where one of the most prestigious vodkas in the world is made. Upon returning to the barge we will continue cruising through the busy port of Rotterdam and then across the Hollandsch Diep, part of the Dutch estuaries, to the charming old fortress town of Willemstad. Dinner on board.
Wednesday- Willemstad to Antwerp
Today we will leave Holland and cross the border into Belgium and cruise to Antwerp. Antwerp is the city of Rubens where we take a tour of Rubens’ home and then walk in the old quarter of this beautiful Flemish city. Dinner on board.
Thursday- Antwerp to Ghent
We can catch the flood tide up the winding “Sea Schelde” which takes us to the town of Ghent. Here you can look at the “The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb” the famous painting by the Van Eyck brothers, or just stroll through this wonderful town in the afternoon. Dinner on board.
Friday- Ghent to Bruges
This morning we will cruise to the beautiful little town of Bruges, known as the “Venice of the North”. After an elegant breakfast we will take a short drive to the Zaanse Schans to visit a working windmill, a clog maker and a cheese maker. In the afternoon we will cruise to Amsterdam, through the heart of the city where the small canals and architecture will take you back to a previous century and then along the Amstel River to Ouderkerk.
Tuesday- Ouderkerk to Gouda
An early rise and drive to the colorful flower auction in Aalsmeer. Upon return we will set off for a cruise on the canals to the cheese Mecca of Gouda. After lunch, we will take a drive out to a local cheese farm. Besides cheese, you will find beautiful buildings, excellent shopping and the most magnificent stained glass windows in Holland.
Wednesday- Gouda to Delft
A morning cruise to Rotterdam through the center of this busy port and then onto Delft. Visit the Delft Pottery works, where porclain is still handmade and painted. Spend the rest of the afternoon strolling around this beautiful ancient Dutch city.
Thursday- Delft to Oude Wetering
A morning cruise through the canals past Leiden, across the Brasemmer Lakes to Oude Wetering. Spend the afternoon at the famous Keukenhof Gardens with the largest display of flowers in the world. Here you will see hundreds of varieties of tulips, hyacints and other beautiful bulbs.
Friday- Oude Wetering to Haarlem

Your chauffeurs collect you from the designated meeting place for your transfer to the Savoir Faire moored at Cumieres, 2km from the heart of Epernay. After an introduction to your ship, you are given time to settle in to your cabin before joining your captain and crew for our welcoming 'Champagne Reception'. There will be time to stroll through the village before coming back on board where your master chef will delight you with the first of many delicious meals.
Monday- Cumieres to Damery
This morning, after breakfast, we visit Reims and its magnificent cathedral. We then join the "Savoir Faire" for lunch and a short cruise to the delightful little town of Damery, with its 13th century church, which was part of a former Benedictine priory. Later this afternoon we visit the Abbey of Hautvilliers where the monk Dom Perignon first made Champagne. Dinner aboard.
Tuesday- Damery to Chateau Thierry
You are now entering the true Champagne region. Your hosts have arranged a pre-lunch visit to the world famous cellars of Moet and Chandon for a tour and tasting. We then continue to cruise to Chateau Thierry, were we shall moor for the night. This pretty town offers a promenade along the original walls of the town with views over the Marne valley. This whole area was the scene of American battles in World War I. Nearby is the American Monument. Built in 1929, at an altitude of 660 feet, the monument keeps alive the memory of the American troops who fought in WWI. Optional visit to Belleau Wood battlefield and the American cemetery. Wednesday- Chateau Thierry to La Ferte
Your cruise today will take you through picturesque landscapes so loved by both the French and visitors abroad. Today we have arranged a tour of some of our favorite places and a selection of visits to small family-run vineyards so that you can try their fine selection of champagnes. Thursday- La Ferte to Meaux
Today we cruise to Meaux, in the very heart of Brie, famous for its wonderful cheeses of the same name. Nearby, on the route to Soissons, stands a monument that commemorates the 5th September 1914, the extreme point of advance of the German troops and the date of the French counter-attack. We visit Coulomniers, one of the centers of Brie cheese. Your personalized visit to a master cheese maker will enable you to see the cheese-making process first hand and to sample a variety of the world famous Brie cheese, along with wines from his excellent cellar. Friday- Meaux to Paris
This morning we leave Meaux and head towards the mighty Seine which will take us into the very heart of Paris. Our cruise will take us past Coupvray, the birthplace of Louis Braille, the inventor of the alphabet for the blind. At St Maur des Fosses we pass through the tunnel, which enables us to bypass the shallow waters of the Marne Loop. Today we visit the magnificent Chateau of Vaux-le-Vicomte. The wonderfully-proportioned chateau and its exquisite gardens are the highlight of this visit. Built between 1656 and 1661 for finance minister Nicolas Fouquet. We finish our journey with an exclusive evening cruise through Paris. As the "Savoir Faire" glides past the magnificent church of Notre Dame, the resplendent Louvre art gallery and the symbolic Eiffel Tower, you will be joined by your captain and his wife for cocktails followed by the farewell "Captains Dinner". Pass beneath the Eiffel Tower and the floodlit bridges. Our final berth for the night is in the Arsenal, a stone's throw from the lively district of the Bastille.

Monday- Ancy le Franc to Lezinnes
Fresh ground coffee and fluffy croissants and pastries straight from the local baker - a delicious breakfast sets us up for our excursion to Fontenay, a marvelous medieval abbey with its cloisters, capitulary hall, dormitories and fish basins full of trout. There’s even a prison. Returning to the Savoir Faire for lunch we start our gentle cruise past the beautiful 16th century Renaissance palace and gardens of Chateau d'Ancy le Franc, towards the canalside village of Lezinnes where we moor overnight. Today, as with every day of your cruise, there's plenty of opportunity to wander or cycle ahead as the vessel descends through a series of quaint, hand operated, locks.
Tuesday- Lezinnes to Tanlay
Today we have a real delight in store! Ropes away and onward past sleepy hamlets and cattle grazing by the canal banks. Our cruise today takes us to Tanlay, famous for its beautiful 16th century Renaissance-style Chateau. After lunch we take a short ride to the Chateau of Ancy-le-Franc. This Renaissance jewel, set in the centre of a large park on the banks of the canal, houses the biggest collection of Renaissance murals in France, making Ancy-le-Franc a direct contender of Fontainebleau Palace. The immense quadrilateral, which is a classified historic monument, holds a rich decor attributed to some of the most celebrated Italian, Flemish and Burgundy artists of the 16th and 17th century.
Wednesday- Tanlay to Tonnerre
After breakfast we take a short walk to the Chateau de Tanlay, nestling serenely within this picturesque village. The interior is luxuriously furnished and decorated by some astonishing frescoes. After lunch we continue your cruise along the Burgundy Canal. Our cruise this afternoon takes us to Tonnerre, one of the few places along the canal where you will find vineyards. This town is the centre of a small wine growing area of about 60 hectares producing excellent reds and roses under the name "Bourgogne Epineuil". Of particular interest is La Fosse Dionne. Situated in the centre of the old town this natural spring, the second deepest in France, has long mystified people and is well worth a visit. In 1758 it was converted into a "Lavoire". Also worthy of note is the old hospital, built in 1293 by Margueritte of Burgundy.
Thursday- Tonnerre to Flogny la Chapelle
A good hearty breakfast sets us up for our morning cruise. This is barging at it's best. Relaxed, gentle on the soul, every bend offering something new. Hop on, hop off - we're going nowhere fast! Feeling left out - why not help us with the locks. Great exercise and the photos will be the envy of your friends. After lunch your tour guide drives you to the world famous town of Chablis where you'll take a tour of the ancient press and cellars of Domaine Laroche, followed by a wine tasting of their various fine vintages. After seeing Chablis we drive a short distance to a beautiful secluded spot where you can enjoy a panoramic vista of the Grand Cru vineyards and the surrounding countryside. Friday- Flogny la Chapelle to St. Florentin
Our cruise this morning takes us to our final destination of St Florentin. After lunch we drive to one of the prettiest towns in France. Auxerre, the capital of lower Burgundy, is situated in the heart of a wine growing region most famous for its Chablis wine. The success of this thriving town is celebrated by architectural jewels such as the ornately painted 15th century Clock Tower, the soaring Gothic cathedrals of Saint Germain and Saint Stephen and an abundance of ornate Renaissance houses bordering tree lined squares. Every street offers a golden opportunity for the aspiring photographer. Relax before dinner with a drink from the bar and enjoy the evening from the panoramic deck of the "Savoir Faire". There will be an optional visit to the famous Delta Project which is one of the greatest feats of water engineering in the world involving damming the great estuaries. Dinner on board.

Tuesday- Delft to Gouda
After breakfast we take a walking tour of the Royal Porcelain Factory, where beautiful hand painted ceramics are still made. We then take a stroll around the cobbled streets of Delft before joining the ship to begin your cruise through the busy port of Rotterdam and onto Gouda.
Wednesday- Gouda to Uithoorn
This morning your tour guide will escort you through the streets of medieval Gouda, where you will see the most famous of all stained glass windows in Holland. A leisurely stroll through town is a must, with its "Disneyesque" main square and small boutiques. After lunch we cruise through towns clinging to the canal sides to our overnight mooring at Uithoorn.
Thursday- Uithoorn to Zaandam
Today we begin our cruise along the winding Amstel River into Amsterdam and then through the very heart of this enchanting city where small canals and unique architecture take you back to a bygone era. You can literally reach out and touch the passers by. Leaving Amsterdam we join the mighty North Sea Canal and head west towards our overnight mooring at Zaandam. After lunch your tour guide drives you to Zaans Schans with its clog maker and working windmills. There's even the first supermarket in Holland.
Friday- Zaandam to Haarlem
Our final cruise takes us to Haarlem, a town of exceptional beauty with its main square, once used for jousting and the famous Frans Hals Museum. There will be plenty of time to enjoy this wonderful place and to shop around its many boutiques. Tonight we celebrate your company at the Captain's table with mouth watering offerings from your chef.
Saturday- Haarlem
We end the cruise with a hearty breakfast and a fond farewell from your crew and then transfer you to the designated drop off point.

Clair de Lune
Le Somail to Carcassonne
Sunday- Le Somail
You are met at the designated meeting point and transferred to Clair de Lune peacefully moored at the port of Le Somail. The crew welcomes you on board with a glass of chilled champagne on the sun deck. Time for a walk or bicycle ride around this pretty canal side village before your first dinner on board.
Monday- Le Somail to Argens
This morning we cruise to Argens. During the cruise you can relax on the sun loungers or in the spa pool and enjoy the landscape. After lunch we drive to Miellerie des Clauses to learn the trade of the beekeeper. View the bee hives and a honey extraction workshop, created 26 years ago. Tasting of honey, gingerbread, mead and cakes are also on the agenda. Finish the afternoon a swim in the sea before returning to the barge. Enjoy a game of boules before dinner on board.
Tuesday- Argens to Puicheric
After breakfast, we cruise to Puichéric through five locks. Once moored we will enjoy lunch al fresco beneath the trees. This afternoon your guide transfers you to Narbonne to "Freedom and Space" an aquatic centre with giant slides and pools. Alternatively a visit the Horreum, an underground Roman grain warehouse and the 12th century Narbonne Cathedral. Return to the barge for dinner on board.
Wednesday- Puicheric to Millegrand
After breakfast, while the barge cruises, why not enjoy a walk or bicycle ride following the tow path to the lunchtime mooring. After lunch we enjoy canoeing on the River Aude, great fun for the whole family. Dinner ashore tonight at a local auberge.
Thursday- Millegrand to Villedubert
Cruise this morning to Villedubert. After lunch we drive to Cavayères. The lake and forest of Cavayère is not just for taking a stroll, it is also a health resort, an amusement park, a place where adults and children can have fun. A special place where you can relax with your family and enjoy children's games, water sports, sandy beaches, fishing, tree climbing and mini golf. Return to the barge for dinner on board.
Friday- Villedubert to Carcassonne
This morning we cruise to our final destination and highlight of the week, Carcassonne. After lunch your guide will accompany you to the largest and most beautiful walled ancient city of Europe. Carcassonne, dating from the time of Charlemagne, has been fully restored. You can walk the ramparts, visit the Château Comtal and step back in time. For the more adventurous, visit the Haunted House. Captain’s Farewell Dinner aboard.
Saturday- Carcassonne
After breakfast, depart the barge by minibus and transfer to the designated drop off point.

Athos
Argeliers to Marseillan
Sunday- Argeliers
You will be met at the designated meeting point and transferred to where the Athos awaits you at her moorings in Argeliers. Crew Welcome aboard, including an introduction to the Ship’s Dog, Jill. Toasting with either Champagne or soft drinks, the Chef will offer a selection of Mediterranean canapés fit for children and adults alike. Once you are settled into your cabin, we enjoy our first dinner on board.
Monday- Argeliers to Capestang
While coffee is available at any time from the bar, continental-style breakfast is served, at your leisure, beginning at 8:30am. A breakfast buffet offers a selection to please everyone: cereals, juices, yogurts, cold meats and cheese, and of course fresh pastries and bread from the local boulangerie! Your guide suggests an excursion to the famous medieval double-walled city of Carcassonne, which will include the legendary tales of Dame Carcas and a visit to the tombstone of Simon de Montfort. Time also to browse the shops before returning to the barge. During the cruise to Capestang the Chef serves lunch while the whole family relaxes on the sunny deck. If exercise and a swim are in order, cycling enthusiasts might like to hop off with bicycles and Jill the dog. Alternatively, a quick drive to the swimming hole at the Cesse River under the 17thC Canal Bridge for a swim. Dinner on board al fresco, under the shade of the plain trees.
Tuesday- Capestang-Regismont le Haut
After breakfast, we begin cruising through the sprawling, surrounding vineyards with plenty of time for a cycle ride. Once moored we enjoy a game of Pétanque. After lunch, we continue our cruise. In the afternoon we visit the local organic Goat’s cheese farm at Combebelle. We then drive for 30 minutes into the Minervois hillside and visit the petting zoo in Combebelle, where everyone can watch the goats being milked, learn how the cheese is made, taste the products and of course, bring some back to Athos to eat! On the way back, your guide stops at Bize Minervois, where the locals swim in the river – a refreshing cool-down at the end of a busy day! Dinner on board.
Wednesday- Regismont le Haut to Fonserannes
After breakfast, your guide invites enthusiastic swimmers and paddlers on an excursion into the Cevennes mountains, where large, wide kayaks float down the River Orb! After the scenic drive into the hills, everyone is handed a helmet and lifejacket, then set off in kayaking groups to navigate the mostly-shallow river bed. Chef has packed a superb picnic lunch to be served by crew members who have accompanied the trip. For those more enthusiastic about relaxing than kayaking, the captain invites you to stay on board for a leisurely cruise, lunch on deck, and a quiet time under the parasol. When kayakers return, cruising gets under way once again, making the way towards Fonserannes. This evening's mooring is the breath-taking view-point at the Fonserannes. Perhaps a little bicycle ride down to the staircase locks and the Canal Bridge before dinner on board.
Thursday- Fonserannes to Portiragnes
After breakfast we enjoy a trip to the weekly morning market in Narbonne. Even for non-shoppers, Narbonne offers much entertainment on a Thursday morning! Explore an excavated portion of the original Roman road, the Via Domitia, or browse through the well-compiled Roman Museum and discover the beauty of St. Juste Cathedral, sit and relax in one of the many cafés. Return to the barge and enjoy lunch during the cruise through the staircase locks. This 17th Century feat of engineering, the Neuf Ecluses (or staircase locks), is sure to impress! The crew expertly tie her up in each lock, and wait for the gates to close safely behind her before the water levels empty out and allow her to pass one locks into the next. But it's not over yet! Coming up next is the 18th Century Canal Bridge which will carry the barge over the Orb River. The paved tow path and the many locks leading to this village make it an ideal afternoon for walking or cycling alongside the barge. When we arrive at the evening's mooring just outside the small village of Portiragnes, your guide invites swimmers for a quick trip to the beach and a swim in the Mediterranean! Dinner on board
Friday- Portiragnes to Marseillan
After breakfast the barge starts to cruise. Active family members may like to take the bicycles back to the beach for a quick swim and then return to Athos as she makes her way under the Portiragnes bridge. A spectacular seafood lunch arrives as you enter the open-waters of the Etang de Thau. The Etang hosts Europe's largest mussel and oyster park. The crew’s favourite swimming pool is the Etang! Join them and jump in to cool off! As Athos comes to moor in the port at Marseillan, you will notice the enclosure of the Noillly Prat Vermouth distillery. End a perfect day with a walking visit of the village, a romp around the seaside play park which is a stone’s throw from Athos’ mooring, or a leisurely cycle ride down the promenade. Paris to Cumieres
Sunday- Paris
You are met at the designated meeting point and transfer to the barge mooring at the Port d ‘Arsenal, in the heart of Paris. Champagne welcome and your Captain introduces you to the crew. We enjoy a short cruise through Paris past the monuments and romantic bridges. Dinner on board.
Monday- Paris to Meaux
After breakfast transfer to Crecy Golf Club. Crecy offers 18 hole championship golf courses to challenge your handicap. This course is the unique Arnold Palmer signature in France, the Vignoly course. In the afternoon depart Paris onto the River Marne and moor in Meaux in time for a stroll around town before dinner on board.
Tuesday- Meaux to La Ferte
After breakfast we depart the barge for Golf de Meaux-Boutigny. An 18-hole international golf course on a beautiful rolling terrain of 65 hectares. After lunch we to cruise to La Ferte. Dinner on board.
Wednesday- La Ferte to Charly-sur-Marne
Cruise upstream to Charly-sur-Marne. Visit one of the small family vineyards before lunch to taste their wonderful champagne and visit their cellars. Lunch is followed by an afternoon an idyllic cruise to Chateau Thierry, the scene of American battles in World War I. Dinner on board.
Thursday- Charly-sur-Marne to Damery
The River Marne winds its way through vine-covered hills dotted with small wine villages to the delightful little town of Damery. After lunch we transfer to Secret Valley Golf Club, a 72 par, 5703 m, approved by the FFG. Hilly and decorated with ornamental lakes, this 18 hole requires excellent technique for those who want to measure their strength. Return to the barge for dinner on board
Friday- Damery to Cumieres
After breakfast we transfer to L'Ailette Golf Club. Designed by Michel Gayon, the Ailette course skirts the water at Ailette Water Park, surrounded by wooded hillsides. Players can choose between an 18-hole course and a 9-hole course. The courses have numerous water hazards and well-placed bunkers and are a fantastic challenge for golfers of all abilities. Return to the barge and cruise the last stretch of the River Marne before arriving at our mooring in Cumieres. Captains Farewell Dinner on board.
Saturday- Cumieres to Paris
Disembark after breakfast and transfer to the designated drop off point.

After breakfast depart Paris onto the River Marne. After lunch, we visit the magnificent Chateau of Vaux-le-Vicomte and its gardens, location of the film "The Man in the Iron Mask". Rejoin the barge in Meaux in time for a stroll around town. Dinner on board.
Tuesday- Meaux to La Ferte
After breakfast we cruise to La Ferte. After lunch we visit to a master cheese ripener for a tasting of their various Bries, followed by a visit the Merovingian Crypts of Jouarre - a unique heritage that takes you back to the 7th Century. Dinner on board.
Wednesday- La Ferte to Charly-sur-Marne
Cruise upstream to Charly-sur-Marne. Visit one of the small family vineyards before lunch to taste their wonderful champagne and visit their cellars. Lunch is followed by an afternoon an idyllic cruise to Chateau Thierry, the scene of American battles in World War I. Dinner on board.

After breakfast we cruise the last stretch of the River Marne before arriving at our mooring in Cumieres. Visit the outside of the Abbey of Hautvilliers where the monk Dom Perignon first made champagne. After lunch we drive to the Reims cathedral, where the Kings of France were crowned. Return to the barge for the Captains Farewell Dinner on board.
