Saturday Chauffeured transfer Paris to Clamecy
A warm welcome aboard!
A member of Elisabeth crew will meet your party at 2:00 pm at one Paris
hotel of your choice and chauffeur you to Elisabeth, moored in the village
of Clamecy. Estimated arrival time is 5:00 pm. Your hosts, Captain Peter
Jenner and Guide Sheena Jenner, will welcome you with the traditional
champagne reception and introduction of crew. There will be time to look
around Clamecy before the first of many gourmet dinners on board.
Sunday Clamecy to Lucy-sur-Yonne
Chateau de Bazoches
Today is the first of many breakfasts featuring village-baked pastries
warm from the oven. We’ll start our sightseeing with an excursion to
Chateau de Bazoches, home of Marechal Vauban, one of France’s
greatest military engineers. His most important patron was King Louis
with wonderful walking and bicycling opportunities through the gorgeous
.Lunch on board while we begin to cruise to Lucy-sur-Yonne countryside.
Monday Lucy-sur-Yonne to Mailly-le-Chateau
Romanesque basilica at Vezelay
This morning, we will visit a cruise high point: the village of Vezelay,
where a cobblestoned street lined with delightful shops leads upward to
the Romanesque basilica of St. Mary Magdelene. Sheena knows this
church well. Enjoy incredible views of the surrounding countryside. This
afternoon, Elisabeth makes its way through the Saussois cliffs. You can
climb to the top for another incredible view, if so inclined! Review this very
interesting day over dinner on board.
Tuesday Mailley-le-Chateau to Accolay
Prehistoric cave or medieval chateau: The choice is yours!
Cruise in the morning. If you haven’t already joined Captain Jenner in
his wheelhouse, now is the day to do so. Otherwise, you can relax on
deck, walk the towpath or explore by bicycle. Today you have a choice
of excursions: The Grottes D’Arcy, a pre-historic cave where Sheena
will show you incredible paintings that may be 30,000 years old OR
the Chateau at Guerdelon, a medieval chateau being built by methods
of the period. Talk to the workman and examine the ancient building
implements. You’ll be back on board for dinner tonight.
Wednesday Accolay to Vincelles
Taste wine – after all, you ARE in France!
Relax on deck on another morning cruise past lovely villages, weeping
willow trees lining the shore, and antique lock houses. After lunch, it is time
to taste wine in the renowned Chablis vineyards. Visit an ancient cellar,
after which the drives through the vineyards are glorious. Taste more wine
from Chablis at dinner tonight.
Thursday Vincelles to Auxerre
It’s your last cruise to the mooring at the quai in Auxerre. This town rises
up above the quai, showing well preserved buildings from many periods.
After lunch, explore in the churches, the squares and the shops of this
lovely town. Then it’s back to Elisabeth, for cocktails on deck as the sun
sets over Auxerre and an especially wonderful gourmet dinner that ends
your cruise in style.
Friday Chauffeured transfer Auxerre to Paris
A sad farewell
Depart after breakfast at 9:00am for your chauffeured transfer back to one
location in Paris. Estimated arrival time is noon. We hope to see you back
again on Elisabeth!
