Monday
Strasbourg to Brumath Forest
This morning we cruise into the stunning Brumath Forest with walking and cycling opportunities.  After Lunch we drive to Strasbourg and enjoy a tour of the city, including of course, a visit to the 12th century Gothic pink sandstone cathedral, home to an astronomical Renaissance clock and a soaring spire. We then visit Place Gutenberg and explore La Petite France, a pedestrian area brimming with half-timbered houses, boutique shops and cafes. Later we enjoy a tour with a private wine and kougloff tasting at the Cave Historique des Hospices de Strasbourg, which dates from 1394 and still stores a barrel of wine from 1472 that was last tasted by De Gaulle’s liberating French army in 1944.  Dinner aboard.

Tuesday
Brumath Forest to Hochfelden
This morning we cruise to Hochfelden. After lunch we enjoy a tour of the village of Wingersheim and visit the Alsace hops region situated between the Vosges mountains and the Black Forest. The climate is continental with hot summers that perfectly suit the hops plants. From a view point above the village, we hear about growing hops and the history of the hops culture, before a tour and tasting of locally brewed beer with local expert André Fisher. On the way back we stop for a Tarte Flambee and beer at a typical Hansel and Gretel style Alsatian inn Dinner on board.

Wednesday
Hochfelden to Saverne

We then tour the outstanding René Lalique collection and see over 500 exceptional examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassware.  In nearby Wingen-sur-Moder is also the World War II battleground where in 1945 American infantry confronted some of Germany’s most seasoned veterans. Dinner on board.

Thursday
Saverne to Lutzelbourg
After breakfast, we enjoy a walking tour of Saverne, including a visit to its local market.  We then visit the 11th century hilltop Château de Haut Barr, a former residence of the bishops of Strasbourg with its Roman chapel and Gothic. Before we return to Panache we drive through the scenic Vosges hills on the Route des Grands Crus and stop to admire the vineyards. Return to Panache for a cruise to Lutzelbourg followed by dinner ashore at the restaurant le soldat de l’an 2.

Friday
Lutzelbourg to Niderviller
We start the day with a visit to a local bakery to watch skilled patissiers preparing their delicious creations.  We then visit the Fusion Libre artistic glass blowers workshop before ascending the unique Arzviller boat elevator that carries Panache effortlessly 450 feet up the mountainside in minutes, thus avoiding 17 traditional locks and an additional day’s navigation. We then enjoy a candlelit lunch on board whilst passing through the two Arzviller tunnels.  Once we arrive in Niderviller we tour the interesting town of Sarrebourg, including visits to the 13th century chapel containing the remarkable stained-glass window designed by Marc Chagall and the impressive museum of Roman and Medieval artefacts.
