St Leger to Dole

Welcome Aboard! 
Board the barge at St. Léger sur Dheune for your cruise through Burgundy. A champagne reception welcomes you on board and gives you a chance to meet the crew. Later that evening enjoy your first dining experience on board.
 
Monday
Cruise to Chagny. Visit Chateau de Rully
A leisurely cruise on the Canal du Centre gives you a chance to savor the beauty of the French countryside, with plenty of opportunities at the many locks to get off the barge and walk or cycle along the splendid tow path. After lunch, your guide will take you to the pretty village of Rully to the 12 th Century medieval fortress which has remained in the same family by marriage since its origin. The owner will guide you through his home
sharing the intriguing history of his ancestors. Your visit is completed by a wonderful tasting of the wines produced by the de Ternay family in the 15th Century kitchen. Return to the barge for dinner.
 
Tuesday
Cruise to Fragnes. Visit Beaune
After breakfast disembark with your guide and visit the charming old town of Beaune to see the famous Hotel-Dieu, a magnificent 15th century charity hospital, followed by a private wine tasting. There is time to stroll through the old town taking in the wonderful architecture and fine shopping before returning to the barge for lunch. Relax on board while the barge cruises the final section of the Canal du Centre, mooring in the pretty village of Fragnes just before the last and very deep lock into the River Saône just north of Chalon-sur-Saône. This evening visit a charming local restaurant for dinner.
 
Wednesday
Cruise to Seurre. Visit Chateaux de Chamirey
After breakfast enjoy a visit to the Château de Chamirey, a family run wine estate in Mercurey where a tour of the vineyards themselves will be followed by a guided visit of the property and wine cellar, and a tasting of the fine range of wines. Return to the barge for lunch and enjoy a somewhat different cruising experience this afternoon, as we leave the canal behind and join the majestic Soane River. Dinner is on served on board.
 
Thursday
Cruise to Auxonne. Visit Clos de Vougeot
This morning the barge continues the cruise upstream on the Saone River to Auxonne. After a wonderful lunch on board we visit the historic Clos de Vougeot where the Cistercian monks first began making wine in the 12th century. The ancient chateau is now the headquarters of the celebrated Burgundian wine society the, Confrererie des chevaliers de tastevin, and contains the ancient cellar and wine presses from medieval times. Rejoin
the barge in Auxonne, this evening’s mooring location. Dinner is served on board.
 
Friday
Cruise to Dole. Visit Dijon
After breakfast, enjoy a walking tour of historic Dijon including a visit to the market, the famous Maille mustard shop and the Ducal Palace, seat of the great medieval dukes of Burgundy. There will be some free time for shopping, or perhaps sit in one of the numerous pavement cafés and simply watch the world go by. Return to the boat for lunch and the final cruise towards Dole. As the chef prepares for your Farewell gala dinner on board, perhaps try a 'Kir' aperitif; a cocktail which mixes the locally produced Cassis black current liqueur with the area's Aligoté white wine.

Breakfast and Farewell
After breakfast the crew bids you farewell before you disembark the barge for your onward travel arrangements.

 

Dole to St Leger

Welcome Aboard! 
Board the barge at the pretty port in Dole's town center for your cruise through Burgundy. A champagne reception welcomes you on board and gives you a chance to meet the crew. This evening, experience your first sumptuous dinner on board.
 
Monday
Visit Clos de Vougeot. Cruise to Auxonne
This morning we cruise to Auxonne. Enjoy lunch on board whilst the barge winds along the Rhone Rhine Canal to meet the Saone River, there are plenty of opportunities to walk or cycle. Leave the barge after lunch to drive down the famous route des Grands crus, passing through the celebrated villages of the Cote d’Or. A stop in Vougeot allows us to visit the celebrated Clos de Vougeot vineyard and Chateau where the Cistercian monks first started making wine in the 12th century. The medieval chateau still contains the ancient presses and is now the headquarters of the renowned Burgundian wine society, the Confrerie de Chevaliers de Tastevin. A private winetasting at a reputed local producer follows the visit. Dinner this evening is on your barge.
 
Tuesday
Visit Dijon. Cruise to Seurre
After breakfast, enjoy a walking tour of historic Dijon including a visit to the market, the famous Maille mustard shop and the Ducal Palace, seat of the great medieval dukes of Burgundy. There will be some free time for shopping and to enjoy lunch at the historic pavement café, La Part des Anges. Return to the boat after lunch for an afternoon cruise along the majestic Soane River to Verdun sur le Doubs. Dinner this evening is on your
barge.
 
Wednesday
Cruise to Fragnes. Visit Chateau de Rully
Our barge cruises the last little stretch on the Saone River, entering the Canal du Centre through the impressive Crissey lock before mooring for the night in Fragnes. After lunch, your guide will take you to the pretty village of Rully to the 12th Century medieval fortress which has remained in the same family by marriage since its origin. The owner will guide you through his home sharing the intriguing history of his ancestors. Your visit
is completed by a wonderful tasting of the wines produced by the de Ternay family in the 15th Century kitchen. This evening you will dine out at a charming local restaurant.
 
Thursday

Relax this morning as the barge continues the beautiful cruise along the canal, you may disembark the barge at a lock, bicycle alongside or walk and keep up with the pace of the barge. After lunch on board we take a short ride to visit the historic city of Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. Here we enjoy a private tour of the magnificent 15th century Hotel Dieu, a splendidly decorated charity hospital which represents both the history of Burgundy and the story of its wine! There will be time to enjoy the charming town and its shops before returning to the barge and a delicious dinner on board.
 
Friday
Cruise to St Leger. Visit Chateau de Chamirey, Mercurey
A leisurely cruise takes us to St Léger, another quaint village along the Canal du Centre which is our final destination. After lunch visit Chateau de Chamirey, a family run wine estate in Mercurey. Enjoy a tour of the vineyards themselves before gathering for a visit of the property, the wine cellar and a tasting of the fine range of wines. Meanwhile the chef is busy preparing your Farewell gala dinner on board.
